Do undergraduate classes count for graduate credit?

A student can earn graduate credit for a course only if:

  • The course has been approved for graduate credit and
  • He or she has been accepted, through an official letter of admission, into the Graduate School.

Graduate credit may be earned for undergraduate 100-level courses identified in the Schedule of Classes by "course may carry grad credit." Extra work beyond that expected for undergraduate credit is required of students wishing to earn graduate credit for these 100-level courses. Graduate students who take an upper division course but do not want to receive graduate credit for it must advise the Graduate School Office, in writing, before beginning the course.

No student may register for a 200- or 300-level course unless he or she has been admitted to the Graduate School or has the written permission of the Vice Provost for Research and Dean of the Graduate School.
