Graduate assistants at Marquette University enjoy many benefits, including such
things as tuition scholarships, low-cost health insurance, discounted learning-based
day care, recreational facilities, and discounts on local entertainment programs.
Regular teaching and research assistantships offer tuition scholarships.
The dollar amounts of awards are stated in award letters for
each semester. Scholarship money is applied directly to students'
Bursar accounts. Scholarships may be used for courses, thesis,
or dissertation
credits, continuous enrollment fees, lab fees, course fees, and
charges for foreign language reading courses that are within
the dollar amount stated in award letters for each semester.
Graduate assistants receive monthly stipends for the services
they provide their departments. Stipend checks are disbursed
over ten months, and on the last working day of each month, beginning
August 31 and ending May 31 (assistants in the department of
Biological Sciences are paid over nine months beginning September
30 and ending May 31). Direct deposit service is available upon
request.
Health insurance is available for purchase to all students and
their dependents through Marquette’s office of Student
Health Service. Information on coverage and premiums may be obtained
from Student Health Service by calling (414) 288-7184 or by visiting
their Web site. Student
Health Service also runs an on-campus clinic, accessible to all
students, for confidential health care, diagnosis, treatment,
and education.
U.S. Savings Bonds are available through payroll deduction.
Savings and other financial services are available at Apple Tree
Credit Union, Educator's Credit Union, First Service Credit Union,
Guardian Credit Union, Landmark Credit Union, and State Central
