International students whose language of instruction for their bachelor's degree education (or master's, if applicable) was not English must take the TOEFL.

International students should have an adequate command of both written and spoken English, usually evidenced by a TOEFL score of at least: 550 on the paper-based version, 213 on the computer-based version, or 79-80 on the new Internet-based version (a minimum of 20 on each section).

Applicants for the bioinformatics, communication, computing, and English programs must test with minimums of: 600 on the paper-based version, 250 on the computer-based version, or 100 on the new Internet-based version.

Test scores may not be more than two years old.

More information about the TOEFL examination can be located online or by contacting the Educational Testing Service, TOEFL/TSE Services, P.O. Box 6151, Princeton, NJ 08541-6151, or call (609) 771-7100.
